Poem [“Libraries always sit. . .”] (by Jim Dolot)

[So far untitled]

Libraries always sit still for their portraits
While their books are undrawable
And each prose page refuses to be pictured.

Inside the library, sitting too still, the students
Slowly perish of the malady of attention
To all the prose pages that cannot be pictured.

Their eyes gone tired, they see the white streams
That run between the black words over the page
And find a thesis: the Oresteia is about nets.

Attention cries the librarian, attention,
The library will be open for twenty-four hours
During study period and for exams.
