Poet Nick Adamski reminds us about tomorrow night’s Poetry Brothel, the next in a series of genre-bending events to blur the line between poetry reading and performance art. Tomorrow night’s brothel kicks off at 9:00 pm, at Papa B Studios, 907 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY (917) 734-2158
The Poetry Brothel is the first event of its kind to seduce New York City. Here’s how it works: The poets play "whores," visitors play "customers," but instead of physical intimacy, the poets offer the intimacy of their poetry by giving private, one-on-one readings in sectioned-off areas. All of the resident "whores" are available for private readings at any time during the event. Of course, every good brothel needs a furtive "front" or cover business; the Brothel is part saloon and part salon, offering a full bar, blackjack table, live portrait painting, exhibited artwork, tarot card readings, and live music.
Tomorrow night’s featured readers are Jennifer Michael Hecht and Maggie Wells (giving her final NYC reading before her move to Paree). We love Jennifer and Maggie.
For a touch of Oscar Wilde, La Tourment Vert Absinthe is tomorrow night’s sponsor. Everyone who attends will be treated to a complementary glass of absinthe.
