Riddle of the Day # 4 [courtesy Richard Wilbur]

Some things that fly there be —
Birds — Hours — the Bumblebee —
Of these no Elegy.

Some things that stay there be —
Grief — Hills — Eternity —
Nor this behooveth me.

There are that, resting, rise.
Can I expound the skies?
How still the Riddle lies!

— Emily Dickinson

"Her subject is not a thing that flies, nor is it a thing that stays; rather, it is something, as we learn in line seven, that flies and stays at once, that both rests and rises."

— Richard Wilbur
