“Tweezered Between” [by Sharon Dolin]

Tweezered Between

birdsong and the silver-razored olive tree light
what song can I add?
geckos and snails splay the walls and flowering tongues of
aloe
are burnt an incomparable orange

the distant sea does not need
me
nor does the mountain village of extended noon
when I walk among paths of lemons and oranges
farmers accuse me with a raw Murcian gaze
I am wearing too many colors

pinks and
teals and limes that give me away
on these stony Moorish roads

does
anyone ever get used to exile?
is Archimedes’ still point the best way

to know
the self?
is having nothing to say
                                         the
truest desert song?
